The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

I have been thinking lately about how easily I am moved to tears. I suppose there are a number of explanations for this. Here are some: (1) I could say that my 2015 bout with sepsis has left me more vulnerable emotionally and thus has led me to express more freely some of my deeper feelings; (2) my first explanation is somewhat contradicted by the fact that for many years I have found it hard to read emotional materials out loud to others without choking up; (3) a somewhat deeper perspective has presented itself in the last couple of days and this suggests that if I am a portal for Godding energy to be manifest in the world that my tears are shared with Godding. In other words, most often when I weep it is Godding weeping through me into the world. This also seems to suggest that there could be a connection between individual self compassion and the self compassion of Godding.

Quantum physics is inviting us to understand that time is a convenient fiction. Quantum reality indicates that what we call past, present, and future actually exists simultaneously. In fact, there is some understanding that future reality has an effect on current reality. That seems very odd to us. We are accustomed to believing that past events have a bearing on present events but not so willing to think that future events have a bearing on present events. If my weeping is a manifestation of the weeping of Godding then it could say something about the nature of Godding. The compassion of Godding which leads to weeping is a constant reality and not just an occasional event.

Some things I have been wondering about:

From a biologic perspective, it seems that we begin our lives as infants with generic needs…food, warmth, skin contact, protection…..and we gradually return to the simplicity of those needs as we enter our last chapter of life. Crying and tears triggers a response to these needs in the shortest amount of time.

We have also learned that tears release neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin with expressions of joy, and cortisol in times of anger or fear. Interesting how the discharge of these neurochemicals literally ‘cleanses’ our spirit, activating the parasympathetic ‘rest and digest’ nervous system. If emotions are generated in the limbic system, the executive function of the higher centers regulate and modulate them. With life experience comes perspective-making, reason, logic, and the strong editorial effect of living among our family and peers. We quickly learn from our culture when tears are expected and when they are not (ie. big boys don’t cry). However, as we approach our final years, it seems that the censure of others becomes much less potent (or our perception of it lessens), and we come to understand that tears free the soul from imploding. Crying the truth sets one free! Is this a Godding gift of aging?

Some of us learn that extreme anger can cause injuries, death, and major discord. Extreme fear can be contagious. Both prompt distancing from the human community. Crying, in contrast, draws people to us. As a form of communication, it triggers a response….usually promptly and with compassionate and concerned intent (thank you, mirror neurons). Perhaps our tears communicate with the Godding energy inside and around us, seeking connection and solidarity? The response to crying in our human community may be the Godding response (?)

    Thank you for writing.

Thanks for your comments. I’m particularly interested in your idea that the community response to our tears may indeed be Godding’s response. I’m sure I’ll have more later.
